Angelo Fermo Announces Campaign for Alabama State House District 64
On Tuesday, January 25, Republican Angelo Fermo announced his campaign for Alabama State House District 64.
Fermo, who recently retired as an agent for Homeland Security, has served 21 years in law enforcement. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, he was inspired to join the U.S Customs Service. He attended and graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy as a Criminal Investigator and then attended and graduated from Special Agent training for the U.S. Customs Service Academy. He has a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Education.
Fermo joined the fight against terrorism by targeting money laundering from the United States that was supporting Al Qaeda. He was later assigned to work on the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) task force with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). He became a subject matter expert in targeting the Mexican Drug Cartels. Fermo was awarded the San Antonio Special Agent of the Year award in 2006 for his work on disruption and dismantlement of drug trafficking organizations across the southwestern border of Texas.
In January of 2007, Fermo was hand-picked by Baldwin County HSI Supervisor Joseph Bettner to transfer to Mobile, Alabama to take a primary role in Operation Skymaster, an undercover operation targeting the Colombian Drug Cartels flooding the U.S. with cocaine and targeting the money laundering of drug proceeds back to Colombia. Additionally Fermo’s work focused on key matters related to national security where again his case work on protecting the homeland resulted in various awards.
His experience fighting drug trafficking, cartel money laundering, and international terrorism has prepared him to lead with conservative values in the Alabama legislature.
Fermo is the proud husband of Ashlee Gaumond Fermo and father of three sons and a step-son. All of his children attend school in Baldwin County. The Fermos are members of St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Robertsdale. Fermo owns several small businesses in Loxley and Belforest.
A strong believer in the Second Amendment, Fermo is a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Baldwin County, The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and a proud supporter and contributor to the VFW and Homes For Our Troops.
“As a law enforcement officer, I have spent 15 years protecting the families of Baldwin County and was willing to lay down my life for your families,” Fermo stated.
“It would be my honor to protect our conservative values in the State House. I’m running because I believe in the American way of life and our children’s futures. I believe my experience in law enforcement, my time navigating the swamp in Washington D.C., and my time working in the Montgomery State Capitol has prepared me to go to Montgomery and fight back against those who seek to radically change this great state and country. I look forward to meeting as many of my fellow citizens as possible in Alabama's 64th District during the course of this campaign and hope to earn your vote,” Fermo concluded.
